The following section, Migration – Greece, contains information on the conditions which women must fulfil in order to obtain a residence permit and – where applicable – a work permit in Greece.
The section is divided into three parts.
Part A (Entering Greece) gives details of the conditions under which a migrant may legally enter Greece. In most cases she may apply for a visa which permits her to enter the country and remain there for a limited period of time. This visa, or initial entry permit, is described here. Possibilities for entering the country vary according to the purpose of the intended stay and are detailed separately in the text, organised by reasons for entering (1. As a Tourist, 2. For Work Purposes, 3. For Marriage Purposes, 4. For a Same-Sex Partnership, 5. As a Student, 6. As an Au Pair, 7. Asylum Seeker). Information is given regarding conditions for entry, the documents required and the duration of the visa, as well as whether or not the woman who holds the visa is permitted to work.
Part B (Staying in Greece) indicates the length of time and the conditions under which the woman may, having legally entered the country, extend her stay in Greece, as well as conditions under which the initial residence permit – mostly obtained in the form of a visa – can be extended. As in Part A, the section is divided into categories according to the different reasons for staying (1. As a Tourist, 2. For Work Purposes, 3. For Marriage Purposes, 4. As a Mother, 5. Asylum Seeker). In addition, it contains information regarding possibilities for obtaining Greek citizenship.
Part C (Leaving Greece), indicates reasons which may lead to the woman being forced to leave the country. It also contains information regarding consequences for a woman who is expelled or deported from Greece and whether this is likely to create problems if she subsequently wishes to re-enter Greece.
